Makarfi inaugurates caretaker c’ttees for Ogun, Kebbi, Borno

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi , has given the assurance that the window for reconciliation with aggrieved members would remain open in the face of reconstitution of state chapters. Makarfi stated this yesterday in Abuja while inaugurating PDP caretaker committee in Kebbi, Ogun and Borno States.

While Abdulahi Wali heads the Kebbi committee, Abdulmalik Mahmud and Barrister Tunde Odanye, head the Borno and Ogun chapters respectively. Besides the three aforementioned states, the national convention of the party had dissolved fi ve other state chapters of the party, mandating the Makarfi – led leadership to setup a caretaker committee in each state. But Makarfi while speaking at the inauguration noted that the decision to inaugurate these sets of caretaker committees was “because they are working against time.”

While he noted that they have achieved successes in some of the states, he added that they extended invitation to stakeholders in the state so as to have a harmonised caretaker committee. “We don’t have luxury of time. We won’t allow circumstance to hold us back. We called both sides. You can’t force everybody to come. We thank all those that came.

“Th ose who genuinely repent and give in to the party will be given equal chance in the party. As we move we remain fl exible and accommodating. We have not closed the door we will never close the door. We will create level playing fi eld for everybody,” he said. He, however, explained that they dissolved the state executives in order to ensure unity because of sharp divisions in the party. He also stressed that the new caretaker committees will also help to ensure that the mistakes and court cases that arose from the past congresses will not re-occur.
