MAFEST urges African countries to promote African fashion 

The president of Meet Africa Fashion Festival (MAFEST), Mr. Charles Ozoemena, has appealed to African countries, especially Nigeria to promote African fashion and creativity and tap its potential for economic growth.

MAFEST president while speaking to journalists in Asaba on a three day  activity of Africa Fashion Festival scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta state in April, 14th-16th, this year said: “The event is backed up by the Delta state government and strategically supported by Nigerians in Diaspora Europe and Africa, the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), the Federal Ministry of Environment, and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

“MAFEST 2025 is proudly organised by Mena Communications Limited, in collaboration with Vanguard Newspapers and Modela Couture, renowned as the king of Haut Couture in Africa,” he said. 

Mr. Ozoemena stated further that the three-Day Extravaganza festival is set to be a grand celebration of African fashion and creativity, featuring stakeholders from across the African fashion and garment industry. Attendees will include elite designers, top models, influencers, celebrities, and industry professionals.

 He added that the objectives of MAFEST were to promote African fashion and creativity, provide a platform for established and emerging designers to showcase their talent, with a fusion of classic African styles and modern trends.

Mr. Ozoemena  stated further that they intend to draw attention to the immense untapped potential of Africa’s fashion sector, encourage African governments and financial institutions to prioritise investments in the fashion industry which is second-largest creator of jobs and wealth after agriculture.

He noted that countries like China, the United States, Sri Lanka, and India have leveraged their fashion industries for significant economic growth.
