Local equity market closes higher, gains N189bn

The local equity market on Friday took a positive direction, appreciating by N189 billion as gain in the shares of Aradel, Conoil boosted market activities.

The market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.32 per cent to N58.920 trillion from N58.731 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 311.33 basis points to 97236.19 points from 96924.86 points reported the previous day.

The trading result showed that year to date return increased to 30.04 per cent as 30 firms closed in green while 23 companies closed lower.

An analysis of the investment showed that Aradel Plc led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N485.30, Conoil followed with a gain of 9.94 per cent to close a N260.00 per unit, JohnHolt gained 9.82 per cent to close at 4.81 per unit, Lasaco Insurance added 9.09 per cent to close at N2.40 per unit, FTNCocoa grew by 8.0 per cent to close at N1.89 per unit.

On the contrary, Meyer Paint topped losers chart, dropping by 9.98 per cent to close at N7.67 per share, Abbey Building Society trailed with a drop of 9.83 per cent to close at N2.66 per share, Eterna Plc down by 9.82 per cent to close at N24.80 per share, SUNU Assurance 9.65 per cent to close at N2.06 per unit, Deap Capital fell by 9.32 per cent to close at N1.07 per unit.

The volume of transactions Dr lined by 265.593 million, representing 35.67 per cent as investors traded 478.944 million shares valued at N9.422 billion in 9015 deals against 744.537 million shares cost N16.477 billion in 9700 deals.

Trading during the day showed that Sterling Bank led market activities with 119.348 million shares valued at N620.527 million, EllahLakes followed with account of 91.595 million shares valued at N337.261 million, AccessCorp traded 54.540 million shares cost N1.342 billion, Fidelity Bank traded 25.777 million shares cost N387.551 million shares, GTCO Plc exchanged 22.460 million shares valued at N1.197 billion.
