LG polls: Play according to the rules,OYSIEC tells parties

Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, (SAN) has charged political parties and relevant stakeholders in the state to play according to the rules in the coming local government election in the state.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders of political parties in the state on the 2024 Local Government council elections in Oyo state held at the OYSIEC headquarters in Ibadan, Aare Olagunju (SAN) said the commission is committed to conducting a free, fair and credible elections.

Aare Olagunju (SAN) maintained that political parties and other relevant stakeholders in the state should be ready to play according to the rules in the interest of a free, fair and credible elections.

“The commission can only achieve success with your support and cooperation, the government in all fairness is ready to conduct the election. We did our best during the last local government council elections, what is important is to have a common goal of serving the people, we are all human beings, we should be united and endeavor to do the right thing at all times”, he said.

Aare Olagunju added, “Kindly appeal to your people to have trust in the commission, if you have a credible candidate, definitely, that person will win. On our part at the commission, we won’t compromise”.

The OYSIEC Chairman noted that serving the people accordingly should be a common goal, which all political parties should strive to attain, adding that the commission would continually engage the political parties and other relevant stakeholders for a successful poll.

Speaking, Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council in Oyo State, (IPAC) , Apostle Dare Ojo said the need for proper planning and better orientation of key players in the election process would go a long way in achieving a peaceful election.

Charging all the political parties in the state not to see the elections as a do-or-die affair but develop the spirit of sportsmanship while going into the polls, Apostle Ojo called on

OYSIEC leadership to synergize with relevant stakeholders and intensify efforts to educate the populace on the need to embrace local government elections to record massive turnout on election day.
