The Action Democratic Party (ADP), has described as outrageous the N350,000 nomination fee stipulated by the Plateau Sate Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), for candidate vying for chairmanship in the February 2018 Local Government Councils elections in the state.
State chairman of the party, Chief Nanyak Andrew, cried out yesterday while fielding questions from our correspondent at the party’s secretariat in Jos.
“We are not too comfortable with the time table set by the PLASIEC, because initially they ensured that October was jam-packed and then allowed November, December and January to be free, but when we cried out to them they shifted the dates, for party primaries to November.
“But the major challenge that we are still hammering on and appealing to the PLASIEC and the state government is to ensure that the nomination and expression of interest fees are be reduce by ¾.
“I am suggesting that PLASIEC should reduce the nomination and administrative charges for chairmen from N350,000 to N100,000 and that of councillorship from N175,000 to N50,000, so that credible persons can come in and give us good governance,” he added.
Chief Andrew said fixing an outrageous nomination fees would prevent credible persons of integrity from coming out to vie for positions adding that it would further prevent them from providing good governance to the people.
According to him, the fees should be such that cobblers, water vendors, sugar cane sellers, can afford to purchase them and seek the mandate of the electorate.
He said the ADP in Plateau State is every much abreast with activities in preparations for the February 17, 2018 Local Government Councils Elections.
“We have been meeting severally to prepare our grounds so that we can come out victorious in most of the council elections noting that the APC government in Plateau State and at the National level have failed the people of the state and Nigerians as a whole,” he opined.
Chief Andrew said the ADP is the most credible alternative political party in Nigeria today, that will offer Nigerians a better deal for their money, with the policies and programmers that they have, like the refurbishing the security architecture in Nigeria, so that there will be total security in food, education, health and others.
