LG election: PDP wants cost of nomination forms reduced in Nasarawa

The People Democratic Party (PDP) Nasarawa state chapter has decried the high cost of nomination forms as announced by the Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) for the conduct of Local Government (LG) election on October 6, 2021 in the state.
The state chairman of the party Mr. Francis Orogu, stated this on Tuesday in Lafia after the expanded meeting of the State Executive Council meeting of the party.

Last Wednesday, the NASIEC chairman announced that councillorship and chairmanship nomination forms is N200,000 and N500,000 respectively.
Mr. Orogu said given the hardship the people are going through presently in the state, that amount was not reasonable and affordable and if the NASIEC insists many political parties may be edged out from participating in the forthcoming council election.
He therefore, advised the commission to emulate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and make their nomination forms free to candidates.

The PDP chairman also kicked against the LG electoral law which posits that results of the election would be announced by the chairman of the commission.
He said the party was consulting with their legal team with a view to challenging the portion of the electoral law in the state.

He called on members to start creating awareness to showcase their candidates for various offices as the party would participate in the election.
