The Patriotic Nigerian Youths Forum (PNYF) has announced the deployment of its members across the country to ensure full realization of local government autonomy.
Comrade Olamide Odumosu the National Coordinator of PNYF, celebrated the achievement in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said, “There’s no more hiding or stealing of local government allocations by governors.”
According to him, this breakthrough marks the end of an era where state governors could unlawfully withhold or misappropriate funds allocated for local government areas (LGAs), paving the way for unprecedented transparency and accountability.
He said, “With this new financial independence, local government councils are now empowered to directly address the needs of their communities, ensuring that development funds reach their intended destinations.
This shift is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for millions of Nigerians by fostering more effective and responsive governance at the grassroots level.
“Local government autonomy is now a reality, and we encourage every Nigerian to take advantage of this new era by actively scrutinizing the management of funds in their respective LGAs,” he said
In a bid to ensure this newfound autonomy translates into tangible benefits for all, the PNYF has mobilized its members nationwide to act as watchdogs.
The National Coordinator noted that these volunteers will closely monitor the use of local government funds, holding officials accountable for any instances of mismanagement or corruption.
“Our members are everywhere, keeping a vigilant eye on local government funds,” Olamide emphasized.
“If any chairman is found misappropriating these funds, they will be held accountable.”
Meanwhile, the PNYF urges citizens to join the fight against corruption by reporting any suspected cases of financial misconduct within their LGAs.
The Forum has pledged to work alongside anti-corruption agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that all local government funds are used for the betterment of the people.
Odumosu explained that this proactive approach by the PNYF signals a new chapter in Nigeria’s push for good governance, with local government autonomy serving as a crucial step towards achieving greater transparency and accountability at all levels of government.
