Leadership crisis rocks Miyetti Allah in Oyo

Fresh leadership crisis  is now rocking the Oyo state chapter of Myetti Allah Cattle Breaders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), over alleged imposition of a new state executive members .

The Fulani community in Oyo state threatened to take a legal action against the MACBAN leadership over the alleged imposition of the new executive.

The leadership crisis came into the open Friday over an alleged imposition of one Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji as the association’s state chairman. Some members of the association kicked against the purported imposition and  protested in Igangan town,  Ibarapa North local government area of the state.

At the protest held at the palace of Seriki Fulani of Oyo state, Alhaji Saliu Kadiri, the Miyetti Allah members stated  that they are not in support of an alleged imposition of a leader “based on an order from the above”.

The Fulani elders specifically accused  the MACBAN  national chairman , Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, of being behind the imposition of  Jiji as the Oyo state chairman of Miyetti Allah as against the majority’s will.

Sources said that following the vacancy in the Oyo state Miyetti Allah chairmanship seat,  an electoral committee was set up headed by Alhaji Kabir Labar  for the election of a new executive with four candidates,  Ibrahim Salihu, Aliyu Mahmood, Mohammed Lawal and Ibrahim Jiji showing interest  for the leadership of the new executive.

However, it was alleged that  the electoral committee failed to follow due process as they   informed  members   that the national chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa, has directed the committee to select  Jiji as the new state chairman.”

Alleging  that majority of the people ”  handpicked”  into the new Miyetti Allah executive in Oyo state “are foreign Fulanis in contravention of the Constitution of MACBAN”, the protesting Fulani community asked the Oyo state government and all other authorities “not to recognise anybody parading himself as the chairman or executive member of MACBAN in the state until the national body of MACBAN do the needful.”

The Sarkin Fulani of Oyo state, Alhaji Salihu Kadiri, while speaking with journalists said Miyetti Allah members in Oyo state are ready to resist the alleged imposition of new executives on them.

“We cannot allow the leadership of Miyetti Allah in Oyo state to be in the wrong hands. Our people rejected the unilateral selection and demand for due process. Even if there should be consensus candidates, all the Sarkin Fulanis across Oyo state should be involved in the selection of the rightful candidate and accepted by all members of Miyetti Allah in the state.”
