Lawmaker harps quality education, vows to change narrative

A lawmaker representing Tambuwal Kebbe federal constituency in Sokoto state , Hon Abdussamad Dasuki has charged students in the area to imbibe reading culture and be more dedicated to their studies education so that at they can be more informed and productive

Dasuki who stated this in Kebbe town while addressing students / parents at the Spelling Bee and reading competition organized by a youth group, popularly called Team Dasuki as part of the activities to celebrate his 46th birthday and commemorate his one in office

The lawmaker who was represented at occasion by his senior legislative aide, Alhaji Attahiru Danmadi, stressed the need for collective effort by government, parents and students to bridge the education gap that exist between the northern and southern parts of the country.

He noted that the north can only catch up with other part of the country if all the stakeholders could come together and play their roles with patriotism and zeal

He said that as a representative of the area at the green chamber, he is ever committed to the educational advancement of the constituency

He disclosed that he has a concrete plan that will give support to the students in the constituency

He enumerated some of the education interventions recorded in the last physical year included purchased and distributions of 450 JAMB forms to students in the constituency and provisions of N 15,000 scholarship grant to students at Dogon Daji town among others

In his remarks, the former education secretary, Kebbe local government, Alhaji Nasiru Musa, advised the Sokoto state government to keep politics aside and support anybody that came with a program which will benefit people especially in the area of education

Alhaji Nasiru said that the idea to organization Spelling Bee and Reading competition was a welcome because according to him it will seek to the spelling and reading skills of a student

“Taking part in the competition will help the participants in English language, it will improve his reading skills

The former education secretary advised the students to always be serious with their studies so that at the end of the schooling, they will come out with colourful result

Musa was worried that the competition was organized to ginger and revive the reading culture on the students but was given a. political meaning

He explained that it’s clearly wrong on the part of the government to deny organizers access to the primary school which had earlier been slated as the venue

He said that the competition was meant to make the students more abreast on spellings and English language and it will benefit not only the students or their parents but the entire local government will benefit

Earlier in his welcome address, the convener of the competition,
Malam Annas Dakura, said the association deemed it worthwhile to organised the event to help boost the students’ reading and spelling abilities.
