The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone, Shehu Sani, has said that he was set to empower 3,400 women within the Kaduna Central zone on various skills acquisition at the cost of N17.5 million.
Speaking when he flagged off the training at his campaign head office in Tudun Wada yesterday, Sani said he is spending N2.5 million on each of the 7 Local governments that made up his senatorial zone.
The women were selected from Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, Igabi, Kajuru, Giwa and Birnin Gwari local government areas that made up the Kaduna Central Senatorial zone.
Sani said the women empowerment programme was his personal intervention and contribution towards eliminating poverty in the state and the country.
The women would acquire various skills such as soap making, knitting, tailoring, fishery, perfumery among other women related skills that would better their lives and those of their families.
He said: “I’m doing this as part of my contribution to alleviating their sufferings, assist their husbands and also make them self reliant and be able to assist their family on the long run. At the end of the training, we will also give them starter packs to ensure that they set up businesses of their own.
“I wish to use this singular opportunity to call on other public office holders to also embark on activities in their various areas that will touch the lives of their people positively. In my personal and official capacity, I will not shy away from the responsibility of adding values to the lives of my people in any way possible.”
One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, commended Sani and called on others to emulate the kind gesture.
