No fewer than 440 persons comprising of 38 landlords and 402 tenants have received compensation, following the acquisition of some property around Ojuelegba, to facilitate the quick implementation of the Quality Bus Corridor infrastructure project.
A statement by LAMATA said the project, which is jointly funded by the Lagos state government and the French Development Agency, will facilitate priority bus services between Ojuelegba and Cele Bus Stop of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The compensation payment was part of LAMATA’s commitment in ensuring fair and transparent treatment for all stakeholders affected by the city’s transport development projects.
Payments were carried out over two days at Surulere local government area headquarters on Friday, November 1, 2024, and LAMATA head office on Monday, November 4, 2024.
During the ceremonies, Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation from landlords and other stakeholders in the community, emphasising that their support was instrumental in smoothly advancing the project.
She encouraged stakeholders to maintain their positive engagement, noting that the project is ultimately for the welfare and improvement of living standards for everyone in the area.
Addressing the public nature of the cheque presentation, Mrs. Akinajo explained the importance of documenting such events for transparency and posterity. She also encouraged the Community Development Association (CDA) to nominate local youth to join the construction workforce, furthering LAMATA’s goal of empowering the community.
Managing Director of Global Impact Environmental Consulting, overseeing Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) Implementation, Dr. Babatunde Osho, said the project’s objectives and assured those present of the firm’s commitment to sustainable, responsible development practices.
The QBC Project Package 1 is part of the larger Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan Project (LSTMPP) to transform Lagos’ transport infrastructure, aiming to enhance mobility, safety, and economic growth across the state.
This initiative, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), aims to transform Lagos’ transport system, with the initial phase extending from Yaba through Ojuelegba and Lawanson to Cele along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. The compensation phase is a crucial step as LAMATA prepares to begin construction on this transformative project.
