Muslims in Plateau state have been urged to do things that will continue to promote peace and uphold the values of Qur’an teachings.
The urge was made by the state governor, Simon Lalong yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 29th annual Qur’an Competition for Jos-North local government area, held at the Central Mosque.
Represented by the deputy chief of staff, Government House, Barrister Yusuf Gambo Hawaja, Lalong said, they had the responsibilities of protecting and allowing all citizens to practice their religion without hindrance.
“As a responsive government, it is our duty to ensure security and safety of all peace loving people of Plateau state, to practice their religion,” he said.
The governor said his administration shall continue to do things that would promote the desired peace, adding that it was evident that already the security situation of the state had improved.
He said: “It is important for the Muslims to inculcate in their children the true doctrine, norms and tenets of the Qur’an and also use it to promote peace, unity of purpose and understating among the different People of the state.
In his speech, the guest speaker, Sheikh Nuhu Kafur, also tasked the Muslims to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Qur’an.
“The Qur’an is a complete book of guidance to mankind and in it Allah has “forbidden alcoholism, it has also forbidden lies and for every one that does any of such things against the teachings of the Qur’an, knows that there is problem in him.”
