The Lagos state government has begun the move to eradicate all illegal inter-state parks operating in the state.
Disclosing this at a press briefing Friday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, said the state had begun streamlining of all inter-state parks within the state and that only those accredited by the state government would be allowed to operate.
He said the decision was made to allow it to monitor the movement of passengers in and out of the state, and ensure their safety and security.
He said the accredited parks would have all the facilities required to meet the demands of a decent park such as public toilets, entry and exit points, banning of sales of alcohol, drugs and marijuana.
According to the Lagos state secretary of the Nigerian Union of Road Transportation Workers (NURTW), Mr. Usman O. Teslim, the union is in total support of transforming manifest from analogue to digital.
He said the state chose to embark on that initiative “because the state appreciates the importance of transportation in Nigeria.”
Mr. Paul Okoghenun, who represented the Public Transport Owners of Nigeria, said the union was yet to reach a consensus on the new development even as he acknowledged the fact that the effort was to eradicate illegal inter-state parks.
