Lagos: Police arrest 43 suspects, recover arms, ammunition

Operatives of Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Thursday stated that they have arrested over 43 suspected gang members during the raid of notorious black spot areas of Lagos.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, said the suspect were arrested in an all-night raid of notorious spots in Oshodi and its environs where  they recovered a semi-automatic pistol in a separate incident same day.

He stated that the raid which was carried out in Anthony, Bolade Oshodi and Oshodi Terminus, was sequel to credible intelligence about the activities of undesirable elements in those areas.

“The pistol was recovered in Opebi, Ikeja when Commander of RRS, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, deployed a team from the squad to verify information received from members of the public.

“Some of items recovered during the discreet operation were two 9mm calibre and 1expended ammunition.”

 He added that the 43 suspects are those found culpable after a thorough screening of all arrested suspects by the commander RRS.

Meanwhile, the suspects will be charged to court immediately after investigations have been concluded.
