Fire has engulfed Oko baba Plank Market, Ebute Metta,Oyingbo,v Lagos state, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire incident is said to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
A press statement issued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the agency received a call concerning the fire outbreak by 10:20 am Sunday.
The statement signed by Nosa Okunbor, head of Public Affairs Unit-LASEMA, said the agency activated it’s Cobra Squad when it received the call from the Onipanu Base and its officials arrived at the scene of the fire incident by 11:20 am.
The agency said when its officials arrived at the scene of the incident, it was observed that a plank market and shanties spread on a large expanse of land near the market was engulfed by fire.
The cause and origin of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained as at time of filing this report, but recovery operation is still ongoing.
LASEMA said the prompt intervention and coordinated efforts of the LRT, LRU Fire Unit and LASG Fire & Rescue Service were able to curtailed the fire immediately.
“The collaborative efforts of responders at the scene contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings before it was quickly subdued.”
