Lagos: Fire destroys Abule Osun, trade fair, properties 

A fire outbreak which occurred early morning  Sunday has destroyed a popular LG office, Abule Osun as well as trade fair in Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos state.

Our correspondent reports that the inferno started around 1200hrs and spread throughout the entire warehouse, affecting equipment, small forklifts, household goods/gadgets, including TVs, refrigerators and air conditioners estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of naira.

Meanwhile, the immediate cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) though the head, Public Affairs Unit, Nosa Okunbor, on the preliminary report regarding the fire outbreak stated that the agency received distress calls through the 767/112 Toll-Free emergency lines at 0015hrs, and activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans.

“Upon arrival of the Dolphin Response Team from LASEMA’s Igando Base at 0040hrs at the incident scene, a raging fire was discovered at the LG office located at the aforementioned address.

“The inferno has spread throughout the entire warehouse, affecting equipment, small forklifts, household goods/gadgets, including TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of naira.

“As of the time of writing this preliminary report, the immediate cause of the fire cannot be determined.

“LASEMA is coordinating the joint response effort with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to quickly contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further,” he said.

Meanwhile the agency has activated the LRU Fire Unit to support the operation with several additional fire appliance trucks for a quick intervention.
