Lagos-Abeokuta Express nightmare

The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway is now a nightmare to motorists. For those coming from the Ifo area, the “craters” on Iyana Ilogbo, Onihale portions of the road have made it impassable. Joju, Owode Ijakon and Sanngo Toll Gate areas are also full of potholes that render the entire stretch of this expressway a no-go area for those who can avoid the route. Commuters who pass through this important road literally weep every day because of the avoidable stress and pain they go through.
Traffic is at a standstill every day, and whenever it rains, the gridlock that lasts for hours makes one wonder if the Federal Ministry of Works and its agency, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency still remembers that this is an important federal highway that serves many Nigerians.
And for the construction company that last handled the rehabilitation of this road, what was the standard?
The federal government needs to hold contractors accountable for its projects. Besides, maintenance is key to the survival of projects. Presently, what is going on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway epitomises government neglect and failed maintenance of projects.
