KWASU slashes N100, 000 fees for students with disabilities

The Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Sunday announced a school fee waiver of ₦100,000 for all students of the institutions that are leaving with disabilities.

Similarly, the institution is implementing ₦50,000 monthly allowance for staff with disabilities with increased employment opportunities for sign language interpreters. 

Professor Jimoh made the disclosure while speaking at an event organised to mark the 2024 International Day of Persons Living with disabilities by the institution’s disability support office and the department of special education  Thursday, according to a statement by the university’s director, Dr. Saidat Aliyu.

Themed: “Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Creating an Accessible and Equitable World.”

In his speech at the event, the vice chancellor highlighted  several policies implemented by the university to as part of its dedication to creating an inclusive educational environment where every member of the university community actively participated in all aspects of campus life.  

Aliyu quoted the VC as saying among the initiatives listed “were a school fee waiver of ₦100,000 for all students living with a disability, a ₦50,000 monthly allowance for staff with disabilities, and increased employment opportunities for sign language interpreters.
