Kwara poly rector lists benefits of new power projects

Rector Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin, Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has expressed confidence that the interventions raised by Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq  on the institution would prepare it towards self-sustainability.

The rector listed such special interventions by Governor AbdulRazaq to include the 1000 – seat capacity Muhammed Alabi Lawal Auditorium and the completion of the abandoned 880- room capacity TETFund  hostel, cited at institution’s  first roundabout.

He pointed out that the TETFund hostel, initiated by the administration of the late Governor Muhammed Lawal was abandoned by the immediate successors for 16 years, but  the present governor has ensured its completion, to the relief of the management and comfort of the students.

Mohammed said the latest of such interventions by the governor is the electricity project executed by the institution in a bid to improve power supply to the institution and its neighbouring communities and agencies.

Addressing newsmen in his office, Mohammed disclosed that no fewer than four communities and six government agencies would benefit from the newly commissioned Harmony Feeder linked to Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin injection sub-station.

He said the electricity project was undertaken by the polytechnic’s management following approval granted by Governor AbdulRazaq.

The project would ensure regular power supply to Apata- Yakuba, Oyun, Oke-Oyi and Oke-Ose communities in Moro and Ilorin East local government areas. The communities are contiguous to the polytechnic’s campus along the old Ilorin-Jebba road.

It will also make small and medium scale businesses thrive in the benefitting communities.

The state and federal government agencies that will also benefit from the institution’s largesse are the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara Television/ Radio Kwara transmission stations, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
