Kwara NULGE crisis: Salihu-led executive to appeal Akure judgement

Comrade Yusuf Ayinla Salihu-led executive council of the Kwara state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), said it is heading to Appeal Court over the September 30 judgement delivered against it by the National Industrial Court, Akure.

A faction of the union had filed a suit at the National Industrial Court challenging the Salihu-led executive of the union shortly after its election in the state.

However, the embattled state NULGE chairman in a statement he signed and issued in Ilorin Thursday, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, urged members to remain calm and law abiding while the state executive employ all legal means at its disposal to resolve the legal tussle surrounding the leadership of the union.

He said the Akure judgement delivered by Honourable Justice K .D .Damulak has not in any way recognise any caretaker committee as being claimed by some persons.

The statement urged members to disregard any claim by any one or group of persons parading themselves as caretaker committee in the state.

“Based on the aforementioned, the state executive council of the union wishes to implore our members to remain calm and go about their lawful duties as the judgement in question has been appealed in a court of competent jurisdiction. The ploy to distract the present executive from engaging in the duties and responsibilities of the union by any group or thier cohort will be vehemently rejected using all available legal means at our disposal

“We also want to appreciate our members for your understanding, support and perseverance as we promise to continue to pursue the lofty ambition of making the local government system and its workers a veritable tool for development,” the statement reads.
