Kwara N30, 000 minimum wage: No going back on strike – Labour

The organised labour in Kwara state has said that it would not back down on its resolved to embark on industrial action if the government of the state failed to sign and implement N30, 000 minimum wage for workers in the state.

The labor leaders re-echoed this in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency congress of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC-TUS) held at Labour House, Ilorin on Thursday.

According to the communiqué jointly signed by the state chairmen of NLC, TUC and JNC-TUS, Aliyu Issa Ore, Ezekiel A. Adegoke and Saliu O. Suleiman, respectively, the congress agreed to go on with the proposed industrial action if the state government refuses to sign and implement the new minimum wage within the 14-day ultimatum given by the labour movement.

The labour leaders resolved to mobilise every member from all affiliated unions toward the commencement of the strike scheduled for October 13, 2020, and called for an enlarged state executive council (SEC) meeting in order to sensitise and equip them for the industrial action.

“The leadership of the labour movement in Kwara state will not call-off the industrial action until our demands are met,” the communiqué added.

The congress, which commended the leadership of the labour movements for the good work done so far on the minimum wage implementation with the state government, reassured workers that they would not betray the confidence repose in them while the struggle lasts.
