Kwara APC to FG: Appeal against Saraki, a distraction

By Umar Bayo Abdulwahab Ilorin

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has described the appeal by the federal government against the ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki “a needless distraction.” Th e state APC chairman, Ishola Balogun Fulani, who addressed the press in Ilorin, said there was the need for a synergy among the three organs of government, especially the executive and the legislature in the issue before it.

Fulani described Saraki’s trial as a “political persecution, a witch-hunt and a grand plan to destabilise the ruling APC and President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. “It is obvious and apparent that the federal government has no case against the Senate President. We are, therefore, surprised that the federal government decided to appeal over the case despite having been found not guilty by the CCT on 14th June, 2017. “From the beginning of the case, it was obvious that the case was purely a political persecution and witch hunting and also a grand plan by a section of people close to the federal government and disgruntled elements to destabilise the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We want to draw your attention to similar cases tried at the CCT on Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr Godsday Orubebe, which were tried on diff erent occasions and each of them were discharged and acquitted. But the federal government did not fi le any appeal over the judgements. So why is Dr Saraki’s case diff erent? “At this juncture, we want to urge the federal government to put aside this needless distractions and face the business of governance. In doing this, there is great need for cooperation between the three arms of government, especially between the executive and the National Assembly. “Th e leaders of our party need to be reminded that another general election is less than two years from now and there is still much to be covered in meeting the needs and aspirations of the masses that voted them into power”, Fulani said.
