Kogi guber: Group concerned over APC’s victory drum before court verdict

As the Supreme Court is set to begin its review and hearing on the Kogi state gubernatorial election, a group under the aegis of Northern Initiative for Defense of Democracy and Justice (NIDDJ), has expressed concern over the way and manner members of APC are celebrating in Kogi state before the judgment.

The national president of the group, Ambassador Nurudeen Musa Sadique, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, Sunday.

Sadique, a human rights activist, said such action exhibited by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi state is capable of undermining the court’s independence and impartiality which he added are vital for the fair functioning of democracy.

“The Supreme Court’s integrity is paramount, and its judgments must uphold the principles of justice without bias or external influence,” he said.

The national president further noted that to ensure a just and unbiased verdict, the court must scrutinise the electoral law, particularly the supremacy of the BVAS system.

“Legal experts overseeing this case must prioritise merit, evidence, and legal principles over technicalities that can derail justice.

“The court must demonstrate its commitment to transparency, fairness, and the rule of law. By serving justice in this case, Nigeria’s democracy will be strengthened and future elections will be  free, fair and credible,” Sadique stated
