A socio-cultural group, Ona-Ara movement, Monday provided free medical healthcare to over 1,000 people in Ekirin Adde as part of its effort to compliment government’s stride in the provision of quality healthcare to the rural dwellers.
The group also distributes over 3000 (10kg) bags of rice, garri and other foodstuff as palliatives to widows, women and youth during the yuletide season.
Speaking during the third edition of Ona-Ara annual anniversary held at Baptist High School, Ekirin- Adde, Sunday, the founder of the group Olugbenga Collins Rotimi, said government alone can not provide the needs of the citizens, hence the decision of the group to embark on free medical outreach to enable the people have access to quality healthcare.
He said through the medical outreach many health challenges the people were battling with due to their poor financial status are treated free and drugs administered to them free.
“Today is the third edition of Ona-Ara annual anniversary. We are in Ekirin- Adde community for the purpose of offering free medical healthcare services, giving food support to the people and commissioning of laboratory and bore hole the group has provided for Ekirin Adde Baptist High school.
“We are reaching out to the widows in the community, providing medical outreach to over 1,000 people both young and old in the community. We carry out malaria test, High Blood Test, Sugar level test, Eye test and issue free drugs, eye glass among others.
“We are doing so many other things to ensure we touches the lives of our people positively. As part of our support to education in the community, we have ordered the engagement of two science teachers in Baptist High School as the school suffered shortage of science teachers.
“It is our responsibility to give back to our community because we are aware that government due to financial constraints.”
