Kogi economy’ll come alive under my administration -Natasha

Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for the November 16 election Natasha Akpoti has promised to rekindle economic activities in Kogi state if given the mandate to govern the state.

The candidate, who had previously aspired for a senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said currently economic activities in the state were at its lowest ebb, adding that her administration will restore the economic prosperity of the state.

The SDP candidate, who stated this in Lokoja Thursday, said one of the main reason she opted to run in the November 16 poll was essentially to midwife the economic transformation of the state and bring about infrastructural development and good governance.

According to her, the absence of both is the reason the state is lacking far behind in a vibrant economic activities as well as a healthy forward-looking society. She the current political climate does not support sound economic activities largely because of insecurity.

She lamented the alarming rate of infrastructural decay and the high degree of economic morbidity which she said has thrown the people of the State into a deep sea of frustration.

“Our people have been living a life of squalor for the past three and half years consequent upon the maladministration of the incumbent governor. Human capital development is utterly minimal. Commercial activities in all parts of the State are at all-time low.

“Hunger in the State is close to a biblical scale due to laying off of legitimate civil servants and non-payment of workers’ salaries. All sectors of the Kogi economy has gone comatose. The whole State has turned into an uninspiring environment. It’s so unfortunate”, she said.

Further, the activist lamented the current precarious condition of the people, assuring that it would become history once her administration comes to being after the November 16 election.

“My motivation for running for the executive seat is to lift the people out of the current sad situation in which they find themselves under the present unresponsive administration and bring Kogi State back to the path of positive development where everything works normal for the good of the masses.

“What the Kogi people are facing today under Governor Bello will become history as soon as I’m elected governor.“By providing them jobs, engage them in vocational trainings, and make them have access to capital which could be used to start small scale businesses, we will address the low economic activities in the state, grow the economy and build a buoyant society”, she said.
