Kogi CJ swears in 9 magistrates, 12 area court judges

The Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, has charged the 21 newly appointed magistrates and judges of area court in the state to keep themselves abreast with the new developments in law to enable them to be up to date in the effective delivery of service.

Justice Ajanah, who gave the charge at the state High Court Lokoja on Monday during the swearing in of 9 magistrates and 12 area court judges , said the administration of justice needs lower court judges that are proactive and diligent in their duties, urging them to “watch the case flow in their court and ensure they have return on cases that are commendable.”

While advising the newly inaugurated lower court judges to exhibit courage, patience, knowledge, wisdom and integrity as qualities and virtues that would propel them to discharge  their duties creditably, Justice Ajanah told the magistrates and area court judges that the state judiciary has zero tolerance for corruption.

He reminded them that they all went through rigorous process of selection at the Judicial Service Commission before their appointment.

“Your appointment is prima facie evidence of your competence and ability. However when you begin to sit as Magistrates and Area Court Judges you will need to justify the confidence reposed on you by this appointment.

“While I congratulate the families and friends that have come to share this day of joy with them, I must warn that you allow the new Magistrates and Area Court Judges to do their jobs without pressuring them to flout their judicial oath.

“The best you can do for them from this day is to pray that God will grant them courage to take judicial decisions without fear of favour,” he warned.
