The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr Yakubu Muritala Ajaka, has alleged that he escaped death by the whistkers in the hand of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and his security details.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, the SDP candidate said the incident happened when he emerged from a visit to one of the traditional rulers in the state where he went to inform him of his decision to run for the governorship seat.
According to him, his convoy had stopped on the road to greet one Bashir Gegu known to him when the chief details of the governor opened fire on him.
The SDP candidate confessed that the Chief Security Officer was with the governor at the time of the incident and had shot at his vehicle on the orders of the governor.
The SDP governorship candidate in the state explained that he was still alive because he was in bullet proof car stating that some other members of his convoy were not lucky as they were hit by the bullet and now in an undisclosed hospital.
According to him seven memebers of his entourage sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and have been taken to hospital.
He said, “Yahaya Bello was there ; he ordered the attack. More than seven vehicles were destroyed. The SDP vehicle was set ablaze. I saw the governor, what saved me was because in was in an armoured vehicle.”
Ajaka said he had reported the incident to the Inspector General of Police who referred him to the Commissioner of Police in the atate.
He also stated that he had spoken to the Commissioner of Police in the state.
About his supporters who are terrified over the attack, the SDP governorship candidate said they should remain calm. In saw the officer that shot at me today and we will pursue it to the end legally.
Earlier, on Saturday June 3, 2023, the incumbent governor alleged that his convoy suffered attack by the SDP governorship candidate.
