The National President of Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Kiliya, has firmly rejected the recent attempt by two board of trustee members to dissolve the entire national executive of the organisation.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Kiliya described the extra-ordinary meeting organised by few members as a blatant act of impunity.
According to him, “It is unconstitutional for two trustees from the same South-south geo-political zone to dissolve the democratically-elected National Executive Council while a legal matter involving the majority of our members and Board of Trustees from all six geo-political zones remains unresolved.
“This action is entirely improper, which is why over eighty percent of our members did not attend the purported extra-ordinary general meeting, as it is illegal.”
He further criticised the organisers and labelled them as ‘mischievous’ and dismissed the self-proclaimed caretaker committee as illegitimate.
“The individuals claiming to have established a caretaker committee have done so illegally and the public should disregard them. They have no authority to dissolve an elected executive while legal proceedings are ongoing in the High Court, Appeal Court and awaiting a Supreme Court judgment.
“They must respect the court’s decision before considering any annual general meeting,” Kiliya asserted.
He underscored the widespread support for the legitimate leadership across the country, saying, “We have members across all 36 states of the federation, and the purported extra-ordinary general meeting does not represent the interests of our entire membership.”
