Kidney transplant: Afe Babalola varsity hospital to emerge Africa’s tourism centre – Expert  

A leading healthcare provider in India, Marengo Asia Healthcare Private Limited, has predicted that the Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital (AMSH) would emerge as a medical tourism centre in Africa.

The leader of the medical team, Dr. Rajeev Sood, a urologist and kidney transplant surgeon, stated this on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital at a press conference by the health institution introducing the kidney transplant programme and partnership.

Dr. Rajeev Sood, who had been a neurologist for 33 years said, “Running successful specialities programme needs partnerships, and good administrators.

“It’s being pleasant surprise to this organisation for the first time, finding, searching an island of excellence existing in this state in Nigeria and in this location.

“Through our partnerships, we will upscale the paramedics ,bring healthcare to the masses of Nigeria. We are focusing on kidney transplant and urology, we are focusing on all specialities – neurosurgeries, cardiac surgeries, upgrading of those specialities, both in terms of technology and surgeries,” Dr. Sood assured.

Continuing, he said: “I can see that Are Afe Babalola himself is so driven even at his age. So, we are humbled that we can be part of his vision to take things forward.”

Chief Medical Director of Multi-System Hospital, Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe. said “Today, we are proud to announce the expansion of our kidney transplant programme through a new partnership with Marengo Asia Healthcare Private Limited.

“This partnership has already yielded significant success. In the last 48 hours alone, we have completed four successful kidney transplants. Those surgeries represent a monumental step forward, allowing us to offer life saving care and specialized treatment without the need for patients to seek care abroad.”
