Staff of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) covering Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, have distributed relief materials worth N1.7 million to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa state.
Speaking at the distribution centre in Kiyawa town, yesterday, the Managing Director of KEDCO, Alhaji Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, said it was the magnanimity of KEDCO’s staff, who pulled their resources together and purchase the goods and items distributed to the IDPs.
The MD, who was represented by the head of Corporate Communications, Alhaji Sani Bala Sani, said “the move was made to sympathise with our brothers and sisters who were displaced from their homes and towns as a result of insurgency in the North-east.
“We are in Jigawa state today at this IDPs camp, Kiyawa as part of our social responsibilities, to sympathise with thousands of lives displaced from North-east,” he stressed.
He explained that KEDCO staff from the three zone comprises; Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, felt concerned to contribute the materials to the victims in order to relieve them of the difficulty they found themselves in.
The materials included 20 bags of rice, 20 cartoons of spaghetti, 20 cartoons of indomie, 30 cachets of soaps, maggi, oil, insecticide nets and six bags of clothes respectively.
While receiving the relief materials for onward distribution to the IDPs, the District Head of Kiyawa, Alhaji Yahya Bello, thanked the KEDCO staff for their gesture and called on other philanthropists to join hands to assist the victims.
