The Kebbi state government has released N585.4 million for the payment of tuition fees for 100 students of the state origin studying in various universities in India.
Governor Nasir Idris gave the approval for payment, on submission made to him by the Ministry for Higher Education.
The Commissioner in the Ministry, Isa Abubakar Tunga, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi Monday that Governor Idris, as a professional teacher, attached paramount importance to acquisition of knowledge in all fields of study by the people of the state.
“All the students in India are studying science courses including medicine, there are also 25 students in Egypt undergoing medicine and nursing sciences.
“The students in Egypt are studying under Egyptian scholarship and Kebbi state government only pays for their accommodation, feeding and resident permits.
“Their file for payment has also been prepared and submitted to the governor for approval, which he will do immediately after his return from official engagement,” the Commissioner said.
