Kebbi records 77 measles cases

 

At least 77 cases of measles have been confirmed and reported in 12 local government areas of Kebbi state as the state is undergoing the last phase of total elimination of the diseases in a crusade between the state government and other donor agencies.

 

Confirming the report in a media chart in Birnin Kebbi, the state Executive Chairman, Kebbi state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, (KSHPHDA), Dr. Manir Hassan Jega, disclosed that they recorded 656 confirmed and suspected cases of measles in the 21 local government areas of the state.

 

He explained that out of the 656 a total of 77 reported cases were, officially, confirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 12 local government areas with the Argungu topping the list with 12 cases.

 

The affected local governments, he said “are Arewa, Argungu, Dandi, Danko Wasagu, Ngaski, Yauri, Jega, Koko-Besse, Birnin kebbi, Maiyama and Augie local governments accordingly.

 

Jega further said that the state government in collaboration with donor agencies has concluded arrangements to flag-off campaign and immunization of children under five months to five years a cross the 21 local government areas.

 

According to him the state is divided into two zones for effective coverage while personnel as well as media practitioners were mobilize for the exercise.
