Kebbi reaffirms commitment to protection of children’s rights

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state, Monday, said his administration will uphold the protection of the rights and privileges of children from childhood to maturity.

He stated this at the celebration of the 2024 Children’s Day in Birnin Kebbi.

Represented by the deputy governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, Comrade Idris said the government would protect all children against any form of abuse or violence at home, school and other abodes. 

“My administration will inculcate virtues of hard work into children, provide them with quality education, protect their rights and privileges and all efforts will be made to enable children realise their potential in life.

“Children, boys and girls, have the right to proper growth with absolute rights, the future of the society is in children and they will receive necessary guidance from the government.” 

Governor Idris added that the administration would encourage children to advance and excel in academic pursuit as well as acquire skills towards becoming self independent and self reliant.

He charged parents and guardians to instill moral values into their children and wards to guard against immorality and involvement in social vices while teachers should rededicate themselves to hard work and sacrifice. 

“I will continue to put necessary measures in place for the improvement of the education sector to achieve quality in knowledge,” he reiterated. 

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for resuscitating the celebration of the Children’s Day, last held in Kebbi state in 2018.
