Governor Nasir Idris Kebbi state has tasked the Nigerian Institute of Architects to proffer solutions to the incessant building collapse in parts of the country.
Governor Idris made the call in a message to the opening of the 2023 Annual General Meeting/Conference and 21st Anniversary celebration of the Kebbi state chapter of the Institute in Birnin Kebbi, Wednesday.
Dr. Idris was emphatic that architects were better placed to charting the best course of action and adopting the necessary measures to curtail the incidents of building collapse in the country.
Represented by the Head of Service, Safiyanu Garba Bena, the governor commended architects for commitment to their profession, saying his administration would continue to draw inspiration and implementation of professional advice from architects in the execution of infrastructural development.
He thanked the institute on behalf of the government and people of Kebbi state for conferring on him the prestigious award of the Architect of Modern Kebbi.
The national president, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Enyi Ben-Eboh, described the development in Kebbi state as outstanding and charged the participants to proffer solutions to the challenges in the construction sector.
He made it clear that architects must look inwards for sustainable practices in design and construction that were indigenous with identity culture and environment.
The chairman of Kebbi state chapter who is the permanent secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Sa’ad Musa Sakaba, and the commissioner in the ministry, Abdullahi Umar Faruq Muslim, acknowledged the unique style of leadership and governance of Governor Idris that has brought quick development to Kebbi state.
