Kebbi mulls new agency, re-names health institute

Kebbi state government has concluded arrangements to establish a new agency called state Public Work Agency that would be shouldered with the responsibility of road network and maintenance even as it was set to re-name the School of Health Technology, Jega, to School of Science and Technology.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the State Executive Council meeting in Birnin kebbi yesterday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Musa Hassan Kalgo, said the new agency would function as a supervisor of all road constructions, procurement and maintenance.

He said a substantive Director-General would soon be appointed to steer the affairs of the agency, adding that the agency would collaborate with the Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure effective service delivery.

Kalgo further disclosed that the Council resolved to re-introduce monthly environmental sanitation programme across the state under the supervision of the Kebbi Urban Development Authority (KUDA) and to be observed every last Saturday of the month, beginning from this month.

According to him, the Council further noted with dismay the poor performance of the Kebbi State Investment Company (KESIC) and has resolved to employ the services of a consultant to manage the investment company with a view to improving its viability and strength.

“The state which was blessed with abundant potentials, we believe the consultant would no doubt woe investors to come to the state and invest,” he said.
