Kebbi state Commissioner of Police, Bello M Sani has visited communities attacked by suspected Lakurawa bandits.
The bandits in large numbers and with sophisticated weapons weekend attacked communities of Dogon Daji, Danmarke, ‘Yar Goru, Tambo, Birnin Debi, Garin Nagoro and Garin Rugga villages, in Arewa local government area.
Eleven people lost their lives while two others sustained gunshot wounds during the invasion of the communities located on the border between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
A statement by the Police command in Birnin Kebbi said the bandits also set ablaze some houses in the affected villages.
“On receipt of the report, the Police Commissioner, Bello M Sani, swiftly mobilised to the scene for an on- the- spot assessment, where he interacted with the Police, Army, Civil Defence and vigilante personnel already deployed to combat crimes in the area.
“The CP condemned the unfortunate incident and instantly reviewed the security architecture of the area, by deploying additional tactical teams. He charged the team to decisively deal with suspected Lakurawa bandits operating in the territory,” the statement reads.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, who signed the statement, added that the Police commissioner also held a meeting with critical stakeholders in the area.
CP Sani extended condolences to the bereaved families, urging the communities to always assist the police and other security agencies with relevant and timely information for prompt response.
Just recently, security operatives killed a leader of the Lakurawa, Maigemu, which may not be unconnected to Saturday’s attack as revenge mission by the bandits.
