Katsina to establish black oil refinery – Commissioner

The Katsina state government has concluded arrangements to establish a Black Oil Energy r e f i n e r y i n Ma s h i L o c a l Government Area to refine petroleum products in the state. T h e c o m m i s s i o n e r f o r Commerce, Industr y and Tourism, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, who disclosed this yesterday, said approval for the hectares of land where it would be sited, had already been obtained. The Commissioner, who was speaking in Kankia during the inauguration of PVC and vinyl tube production lines at Kankia Metal Works, also said that the government and some industrialists were working hard to raise the industrial status of the state through such projects.

The commissioner said that the industrialization agenda of the present administration would assist to create jobs, income and wealth creation, boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as well as improving foreign exchange earnings for the state. Further, he said it would assist the government to reduce poverty and improve the living standard of people. Also, the commissioner disclosed that the government had approved a piece of land to SASCO Limited for the establishment of a meat processing factory in Mai’adua Local Government Area.

The factory, he said would operate on complete value chain as well as forward and backward production integration system and added that the Kaolin factory in Kankara Local Government Area would start operation in 2018. He noted that the government would take advantage of the state’s vast potential and capacity to excavate kaolin of high quality for domestic consumption and export.

He said that the state was blessed with both human and other resources to attain desired sustainable development in the areas of agriculture, mining, manufacturing, construction and general commercial undertakings. The research centre, also in collaboration with other companies has an on-going project of searching for commercial hydrocarbons across all inland sedimentary basins in the nation.

Th e research aims to fi nd the exact location of crude oil basins, will employ advance technology which will provide geophysical mapping which will identify where viable crude deposits can be found and fast track the inland basin exploration eff orts. Other partner corporations will be used to provide exact locations for drilling, while CypherCrescent’s innovative SEPAL solution will improve efficiency and safety; reduce costs, risks and time and increase revenue at every stage in the exploration and production process from existing assets, which is a reliable alternative to drilling new wells – this has successfully been done in the past in a pilot scheme.

This collaborative research will take 18 months to be completed and has crossed 65 percent threshold already. We are seeking to improve the success rate of exploration and production well intervention activities, reduce operations and improve asset integrity, among others.
