Katsina police restrict motorcycle movement

Barely 24 hours after the killing of three policemen by unknown gunmen, has the Katsina state police command announced that restriction of movement of motorcycles and tricycles in all parts of the state from 6am to 9pm.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Hurdi, who made the announcement at media briefing yesterday, said the restriction was necessary for protection of lives and property of the people.

Hurdi said the restriction “covers both commercials and private motorcycles and nobody in respective of his position in the state will be allowed to violate the order.”
“Any person in respective of his position violate the directive will be arrested and deal with,” he said

He said the measure taken was not to create hardship to people, but to improve security situation.
Hurdi further said “we also reintroduce stop and search of all vehicles along the roads across the state.”
The commissioner said a meeting of all security agents in the state had resolved to set up patrol teams comprising police and army along at all entry points into Katsina.

The measure, he added, became necessary since suspected armed robbers and cattle rustlers came into Katsina from other neighbouring states and Niger Republic.
Hurdi called on the people to cooperate with security agencies in
their efforts to make the state free-crime.
