Karu vigilance group descends on robbers

Men of the underworld terrorising residents of Karu in the neighbouring Nasarawa state have started meeting their waterloo as members of the vigilance group, operating in the area, are not leaving anything to chance. Th ey are now seen in their uniforms patrolling all nooks and crannies of the area, including Mararaba, where notorious spots are found. Our correspondent reports that at the weekend, through their patrols, two robbers were ambushed and arrested and handed over to the policeTh ey are also allowed to carry locally made guns on them while on patrol or duties.

Th ey mount road blocks at strategic places at nights making sure that those moving about during late hours are interrogated. On Sunday, Blueprint learnt that a meeting between the vigilantes and the Divisional Police Offi cer (DPO) of Karu Police Division, CSP John Emega, was held in order to further counsel them on how to go about their work without trampling on the fundamental human rights of individuals.

Emega warned them to guard against excesses and other inhuman treatment in the course of carrying out their duties which he said is to some extent, commendable and complement-ally to the police work. He advised them not to relent in their eff orts to apprehend criminals, adding that he would continue to support them. Meanwhile, a group known as the G4 has given the DPO an award for his value to security impact and in recognition of his selfl ess service and protection of lives and property. Th e noted that those in the security sector, especially the police who though are facing challenges, have continued to safeguard the lives of Nigerians. Th ey said many of the security men recognised have sacrifi ced their last blood for the society.
