Kano: Shun political violence, embrace peace, Gaya Emir tasks residents

The Emir of Gaya, Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, has called on politicians and the general populace to shun political violence and embrace peace.

Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya made the call when he received the Commissioner of Police, Kano state Command, CP Mohammad Hussein Gumel, alongside his management team, who paid a courtesy call on the emir in Gaya local government area of the state.

He said the emirate would not tolerate any form of political thuggery or violence.

The royal father therefore warned all village and ward heads to preach peace, stressing that the ward heads would be held responsible for any political violence that occurs within their jurisdiction.

He advised politicians to always shun politics of hate and violence, and rather embrace peace and love for one another.

Earlier, CP Mohammad Hussein Gumel said they were in Gaya emirate to seek for royal blessings and advice, and to dialogue on the recent violence that occurred between supporters of the two major political parties in the state, NNPC and APC.

He said after the announcement of the Supreme Court judgment on the Kano gubernatorial election, clashes erupted between the supporters of the two political parties while celebrating victory in Kademi village of Gaya local government area which left many hospitalised.

CP Gumel said they were in Gaya to have a roundtable meeting with the members of the two parties with a view to having a lasting solution to the problem.
