Kano rerun: CUPP denies supporting PDP’s decision on Tribunal

Chairman of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUUP) in kano state Alhaji Isah Nuhu Isah has distanced the coalition from a purported press conference by some persons who claimed to be members of the coalition claiming to support the decision taken by the leadership of the Peoples Democractic Party, challenging the outcome of the just concluded re-run election at the election petition tribunal.

During a congratulatory visit to governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at Kano Government House  on Wednesday , Isah said  CUUP was shocked and perplexed to read the contents of the news conference discrediting the whole conduct of the election process, security agencies, INEC  and worse still, the declaration to challenge the  outcome of the exercise at the tribunal.

According to him, to keep the record straight, the CUPP which is an amalgamation of 42 political parties is not aware of the said press conference in Kano on the conduct of the election and outcome of the supplementary election.

He said” we in the CUPP, comprising the representatives of the 42 political parties in the coalition, and joined the Inter-party advisory council, categorically disowned and dissociate the coalition from the sham news conference as well as condemn in its entirety, as it does not reflect our true assessment of the election”.

“The Coalition has indeed monitored the supplementary election in Kano and has all in all sincerity believed it to be generally free, fair and peaceful.” he added.

In his remarks, governor Ganduje said those rejecting the outcome of the supplementary election, were doing it out of the excruciating defeat they have suffered pointing out that in an election time, there must be winner and loser and that he was not in any way surprised by the ranting of those contesting his victory.
