Kano police record 601 crimes, rescue 52 kidnap victims

Kano command of the Nigeria Police Force recorded 601 major crimes in 2017, with 52 victims of abduction rescued and reunited with their families.
Besides, the command recovered 35 stolen vehicles, 75 different types of arms and 273 live ammunitions during the period under review.
Speaking to newsmen on their scorecard in 2017, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, said the rate of crime drastically reduced during the year, especially owing to proactive security arrangements strategically deployed in the state as well as the number of criminals arrested with the synergy of the public and stakeholders.
According to him, the value of properties recovered by the command was put at N744, 699, 046.
Comparing the police activities within the period, Magaji said in 2016, the police recorded 72 cases of armed robbery with 117 suspects arrested, while for the current year, only 35 cases were reported with 76 suspects arrested.
In the same vein, he added, 547 cases of rape and sexual offences were reported in 2016 while 334 cases were received in 2017, indicating a major decline in crimes in the state.
He stated that the command successfully arrested 497 members of different gangs of Yandaba in collaboration with traditional rulers and other partners and that 89 members of the group had surrendered and renounced the perpetration of the heinous crimes.
