Kano: Face-off with Emir Sanusi persist – Ganduje

Kano state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said he’s yet to reconcile his differences with the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sunusi II.

The governor spoke Sunday in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abba Anwar.

He said though a reconciliation meeting was held in Abuja Friday, the matter between the governor and the emir was far from being resolved.

He said: “Certainly, a reconciliation meeting was organised by Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state and Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the famous business mogul, and both the emir and the governor attended the meeting, yet the governor has not given a final stand on the reconciliation process.

“What I can confirm to you is that the dialogue is still on. Therefore, we should wait for the response of the governor.”

The media was awash with reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had brokered a truce between the embattled emir and the governor, following pressure from some northern emirs and elders on the president to intervene.

Media reports claimed the president’s intervention came a day to the expiration of a query issued to the emir by the state government seeking explanation on alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion belonging to Kano Emirate.

It was reported that the two warring factions agreed to settle their differences in the interest of the state and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The meeting, according to officials of Kano state government, was actually initiated by Aliko Dangote and Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state and not by the president as widely reported.

It was learnt that the Presidency set up a four-man reconciliation committee to do a follow-up to the on-going meetings with a view to amicably settling the matter.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Muhammadu Babangida Muazu, has pleaded with Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state to intervene in the ongoing feud between Kano emirate council headed by Alhaji Sanusi and the state Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a statement by deputy director, press and public affairs to the governor, Solomon John Gujor, Emir Muazu said Lalong should, as the chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, see reason to intervene in the impasse.

He made the plea during the annual traditional Sallah homage by the Muslim community to the governor at the Government House, Jos.

He said: “As emirs and chiefs in the states of the North, their primary duty is to work with their state governors and state government as indivisible team.”

He stated that the intervention of the NGF leadership would help in bringing to an end the feud between Governor Ganduje and Emir Sanusi II, so that they would all work for peace and progress of the state under the present dispensation.
