Kano anti- graft czar vows to probe Ganduje’s dollar saga

The reinstated Kano State Public  Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission (KSPCACC)  Muhuyi Msgaji Rimim Gado, has  said he would launch fresh investigation into the alleged collection of  5 million dollar bribe by the immediate past governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

At a press conference in Kano Tuesday, Gado said as one saddled with the responsibility of checking sharp corrupt practices in low and high places, he was under no impediment to carry the exercise.

He said the issue of launching fresh investigation has become necessary for the public to know what actually transpired,  adding that there were limitations in the way such probe  was conducted in the past  as both the governor and his deputy had immunity from prosecution.

Muhuyi who was sent  packing by Governor Ganduje over alleged  abuse of office and financial  impropriety, stated that he was at liberty to forge ahead  with the probe knowing that the immediate past governor has no immunity from prosecution.

He said:  “When I said something like thi, I really mean it. In my capacity as chairman of the anti  graft agency, I am conversant with tbe role  I  am supposed to play in checking the excesses of those who abuse their office in the name of corruption.”

In his reaction to the pronouncement, the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Abdullabi Lawal, described the decision of the chairman of the commission to revisit the dollar  gate as a decision   taken out of ignorance.

He said since the case was currently at the Appeal Court,  it would be counter- productive to be revisited.

In a related development, the commission has  arrested the immediate past Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Wada Idriss, for  allegedly withdrawing the sum of  one  billion naira meant for  the execution of a contract that was not executed.
