The coalition of Gombe Youth Association has called on the federal government to consider the appointment of an indigene of the state as the pioneer rector of the newly established Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo.
Briefing newsmen in Gombe Sunday, the group said it would be on a right track to allow qualified indegene of the state to head the prestigious institution.
Leader of the group, Mr Sambo Mohammed, said in the appointment of such nature, preference is usually given to indigenes of the state where the institution is domicile to occupy the office of the rector.
They cited an example with Malam Sanusi Waziri, rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi who in spite coming second in the interview was appointed the rector because he is an indigene of Bauchi .
“The current rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, came second in the interview, but the minister of education recommended him for appointment because of host state advantage.
“We want to believe that ours in Gombe will not be an exception, we want the federal government to consider Gombe indigenes.
The group further appreciates President Muhammadu Buhari and relevant persons who worked assiduously in ensuring the reality of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo.
