Kaduna starts e-learning with 10,000 tablets September

Kaduna state government will start its secondary school e-learning programme in selected secondary schools in September with the distribution of 10, 000 computer tablets, uploaded with over 300 books. Deputy Director Schools, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Malam Idris Aliyu, who disclosed this at the weekend, said the state government on Friday began training of 13,000 senior secondary school teachers on information and Communication Technology (ICT), in preparation for the project. He said: “10,000 computer tablets are ready for distribution under the fi rst phase of the distribution exercise when school resumes in September.

We will start with SS I female students in all girls’ boarding school in the state and subsequently, we will expand to the boys until eventually each of our SS I students has a computer tablets. “Th e next batch will be SS II students, followed by SS III and hopefully by the end of 2018, all our secondary school students will have a computer tablets.”

He said the training of 13,000 teachers at the ICT Hub was to get the teachers ready for the takeoff of the Senior Secondary School e-learning project across the state in September. Aliyu, who commended Governor Nasir el-Rufai for the laudable initiative, pointed out that the project would only be successful when all teachers are ICT compliant. “Th is is why we are training the teachers before school resume in September, such that as soon as the student are back in school, we will distribute the tablets to the teachers and student and they will all be on the same page.”
