Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, Thursday, promised to break the jinx and complete the long-delayed 300-bed Specialist Hospital, equipped with a state-of-the-art oncology unit for cancer research, diagnosis and treatment by the end of 2024.
The hospital, located at Millennium City, was initiated during former Governor Namadi Sambo’s tenure with $148 million support from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), but successive administrations struggled to finalise the project.
The Commissioner for Health, Hajia Umma Ahmed, who spoke on behalf of the governor at a retreat in Kaduna, confirmed the hospital’s impending completion.
She said: “In the last quarter of 2024, we will commission this ultra-modern facility, which will reduce medical tourism and transform healthcare delivery in Kaduna state.”
The commissioner highlighted Governor Sani administration’s broader investments in health infrastructure, which include the upgrade of nine general hospitals across the state’s three senatorial zones.
