Kaduna: Lere Emirate Cup kicks off Feb 8



The Lere Emirates Peace and Unity Cup is scheduled to hold from February 8 to February 27, 2020 across three venues in Lere LGA, Kaduna state. 
A statement by the Secretary of Gidauniyar Masarautar Lere, organisers of the event, Malam Sirajo Yusuf, said that 18 teams drawn from 11 village precincts of the Emirate will trade tackles for the maiden trophy.


“Arrangements have been concluded to commence the maiden edition of Lere Emirate Peace and Unity Cup scheduled to hold from February 8 to February 27, 2020 across three venues in Lere, Kaduna State.
“For the purpose of the football tournament, the Emirate was divided into 11 village precincts from which 18 teams were drawn to compete for laurels in the three-week competition.


“The 18 teams are Lere 1, Jama’ar Iya, Gasakora, Sigau 1, Doka 1, Ramin Kura 1, Lere 2, Kargi and Jingir, Sigau 2, Doka 2, Tudai 1, Lere 3, Kwandari, Dan Alhaji, Tudai 2, Ramin Kura 2 and Lere 4. The teams will play their matches in a round robin format at Lere Township Stadium, GSS Ramin Kura and Kauran Dan Gambo playground.”


Malam Sirajo said the tournament is being organized to engage the youth to reduce restiveness and curb social vices, as well as promote peace and unity in the Emirate.
“Arrangements have therefore been concluded with the placement of a trophy to be competed for during the tournament. It is envisaged that this effort will not only contribute to the development of football but will also foster unity among our people and equally engage the youth especially the restive ones,” Sirajo added.
