Kaduna elders push for recall of serving Senator

The Kaduna Elders Forum has called for the immediate recall of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District from the senate, citing poor representation, failure to fulfill campaign promises, and alleged claims of undermining peace in the state.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s chairman, Alhaji Inuwa Bala Rigasa, the elders expressed disappointment over Senator Usman’s purported assassination claim, describing it as baseless and an attempt to divert attention from his alleged non-performance.

“Since his election to the Senate in 2023, Senator Lawal Adamu has failed to speak up or act in the interest of his constituents despite the prevailing economic hardships. This is unprecedented in the history of senatorial representation in the state,” the statement read.

The senator recently alleged an assassination attempt but failed to provide detailed information. However, the Kaduna State Police Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed that no formal complaint had been lodged by the senator and that efforts to contact him had been unsuccessful.

The elders further alleged that their independent investigation, alongside inquiries from the police and Kawo community members, found no evidence to substantiate the assassination claim.

“We were embarrassed when Senator Lawal Adamu alleged he was attacked by thugs on New Year’s Day. Our investigations revealed no such incident, making his claims dubious and unacceptable,” the statement continued.

The Forum accused the senator of being inaccessible to his constituents and failing to utilise his mandate to address pressing issues affecting the district.

They described his tenure in the Senate, which has spanned over 18 months, as ineffective and unproductive.

“It is clear that he has failed to deliver on his promises, and we can no longer accept his excuses. We are, therefore, demanding his immediate recall from the Senate,” the elders stated.
