Kaduna state government said it had budgeted the sum of N5 billion for provision and maintenance of water facilities in order to provide portable water for the people of the state.
The chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Kaduna state House of Assembly, Hon. David Gurara, who made this known yesterday during a facility and inspection visit to the site of ongoing water project at Birnin Gwari, said the present leadership of the House was committed to providing quality water for its citizenry in tandem with constitutional provision.
He said: “The House of Assembly has approved over N5 billion for water project and maintenance across the state. This is why I’m here to see how the money is being spent. We will always discharge our responsibility as enshrined in the constitution to better the lot of our people.”
The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Ado Dogo Audu, who expressed satisfaction on the stage of the project, said efforts were in top gear to complete it within the stipulated time.
Ado added that there were water projects going on at various communities and had reached various stages of completion as captured in 2014 budget.
He said: “We are satisfied with the progress we are seeing here. Out of 10 tube wells, seven has been installed while it is certain that the other three will be completed before the rains commence fully.”
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Jibrin Maigwari, thanked the governor for the project, saying that it was the first time a sitting governor would fulfil his promise to the community.
The contractor handling the project assured the inspection team that the project “will be completed soon.”
